Members and visitors to AACI in Jerusalem have been truly enriched by the ongoing exhibitions of various artists on display at the Dr. Max and Gianna Glassman Family Center. Two shows are running during the month of March that you won’t want to miss.
The current exhibition, entitled, “Journeys”, is a collection of the works of Leah Poll-Raab. The artist was born in the U.S., made aliyah in 1971 and continued her studies at the Bezalel Academy of Art. Her paintings, which have been exhibited in numerous public and private showings in both the U.S. and Israel, demonstrate her talents and her constant search for innovation, engaging a dialogue with contemporary and classic art.
The show continues through March 10th. The artist will be discussing her works at AACI on the evening of Wednesday, March 9th from 4:00-8:00 pm. The paintings, all signed originals, will also be on sale. Most of the paintings in the show are large canvases but there are also many medium and small sized paintings for sale at very reasonable prices. The collection includes landscapes, abstracts, one portrait, and other more personal subjects. (A percentage of all sales will be donated to AACI.)
A unique exhibit of paintings by Susan H. Lowenthal z”l will run from March 14 through April 14. Sue was a long-time AACI member. The opening on Monday, March 14th at 7 pm will take place in the presence of Sue’s family and friends to commemorate her first yahrtzeit. We know that many of Sue’s acquaintances from AACI, Hadassah, the Israel Museum, and her synagogue will want to attend.
And since we’re on the subject of artists present and past, let’s not forget our future ones as well. AACI invites children ages 5-13 to participate in the AACI Children’s Art Show. The show will run from May 5 – June 16 in honor of Israel Independence Day. The theme of the show is “My Country”. First, second and third prizes will be awarded in each age group. Entries are being accepted only through March 15, 2011 so don’t miss out! Be sure to pass the information on to your children, grandchildren, teachers, and others who lead art activities. Please read the guidelines on the AACI website or contact Donna Grushka at 02-5330335 for more information.
Open hours to view the art shows: Sunday-Thursday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm and some evenings. Please phone the office (02-566-1181) for information about hours and directions.
